Job Description

Job Title: Executive Director

Hours: Part Time, 15 hours per week

Location: Hybrid (remote and on-site in Newton, NJ)

Organization: Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce

Reports to: Executive Board                                     

Effective Date: 9/15/2022

Job Summary:

The Executive Director is responsible for managing the administrative operations for the Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce.  The Director will assist with planning, organizing, and promoting a range of services and events for members. Maintain the Chamber website that features local business news and a membership directory that is available to the public, potential new members and businesses. The GNCC holds regular social events that offer members a chance to network and share information and ideas. The Executive Director is a representative and advocate for business owners and employers in a community.  

Essential Functions:

  • Basic bookkeeping: monitors expenses, reconciles accounts, sends bills, remits payments, prepares checks and bank deposits, creates invoices, receives payments and prepares receipts. Prepares monthly financial statements.
  • Correspondence via mail, email, phone, and social media. Prepares press releases.
  • Schedules meetings (in-person and virtual). Attendance required at one Board of Directors meeting monthly. Maintains meeting records and by-laws. Organizes annual election of Directors and Officers.
  • Manages social media accounts including creating and posting content and responding to inquiries. Includes Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. Creates and sends e-mail newsletters. Manages website including creating and posting content via WordPress and responding to inquiries. Maintains physical and digital files.
  • Assists with planning and executing events. Manages participant registrations and payments.
  • Provides marketing support for events. Ensures sponsorship commitments are met.
  • Assists at events when needed.
  • Onboards new members. Manages membership database.
  • Schedules and attends ribbon cutting events.
  • Monitors storage area. Orders supplies as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability able to learn software applications easily.
  • Flexibility with unpredictable workflow.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Associates degree preferred.
  • Two years related experience required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, WordPress, MailChimp, Canva, GoToMeeting, and social media preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
  • Should be able to lift files and small to mid-sized packages, walk, bend and stand as necessary.
